Bernard Cooke

As a Chartered Psychologist Bernard helps managers with their ‘inner game’ of work - strengthening the psychological resources they already have and removing the barriers, some self-imposed, that limit their achievements.

He is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and holds an Advanced Diploma in Executive Coaching.  He also has an MBA, is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  He is a Member of the Association for Coaching

Some typical clients:

Helping a Sales & Marketing Director in financial services to operate at a strategic level. Having been promoted for his flare at sales, colleagues were not seeing him confidently operating as a director with broader responsibilities. Coaching enabled him to see the natural strengths that he could bring to this job, liberating him from the constraining preconceived notions that he held about the role.

A team of partners of a legal firm attempting to adopt new working practices to achieve business growth targets. The key to this was to raise awareness of the interpersonal issues that inhibited their capacity to work as a team

Where appropriate, he uses robust psychometric instruments* to provide mangers with a comprehensive profile of their personality, helping them to align their strengths and development needs with their goal.

* An acknowledged expert in the use of personality instruments such as the MBTI®, Firo-B®, Hogan Development Survey, CPI and 16PF, Bernard has both used these extensively in his consultancy work and trained other coaches in their application in executive coaching. He co-authored the chapter on using the MBTI in coaching in the book Psychometrics in Coaching. The impact of these psychometric tools can be greatly enhanced when used by skilled and experienced practitioners and Bernard has developed innovative approaches in applying them to psychological coaching methodologies, such as Gestalt, Cognitive-behavioural and Psychodynamic.
